Downloaded avidemux (you need virtualdub too if you don’t already have it)ģ. I checked the youtube tutorials for mac users and used trial and error to apply the steps to virtualdub and eventually figured it out. In short, datamoshing messes with a video’s compression, causing the pixel information to become corrupt.I searched fairly thoroughly for a datamoshing (that weird distortion effect that you see on some gifs and videos where things pixellate and blend together) tutorial that concerns virtualdub/pc and could not find one. Compressed videos contain i-frames and d-frames. I-frames are essentially a complete image of a video frame, whereas d-frames are comprised of where pixels from an i-frame need to move to. The d-frames are much more efficient for video compression since they store only pixel movement data rather than an entire image. However, if the d-frames become corrupted, or if the i-frames get removed, the pixels onscreen will move in some extremely glitchy ways. This results in what we call the datamoshing effect. Historically, datamoshing was an undesirable effect, caused by errors with video compression. Historically, this would be an undesirable visual effect because it obviously means an error has occurred with the video compression or video signal. The first time I saw the effect (the unintentional version), I was watching a video on a handheld digital-TV receiver. You also may have seen it occur while watching satellite TV during a thunderstorm, where there may be some interference with the video signal.Īs mentioned earlier, when errors occur with a compressed video’s i-frames or d-frames, datamoshing is the result. There are two distinct pixel effects this can create (or sometimes a mix between the two). The first is if the video’s i-frames get removed. This typically results in pixels from a previous scene getting projected onto the next scene. It almost looks as if the pixels have been projection-mapped or tracked onto the next shot. An example of datamoshing when the i-frames of a video are removed. The second type of datamoshing glitch occurs when a video’s d-frames are duplicated. This causes the image and colors to melt or bloom together because the pixels are being duplicated multiple times along the same motion path. An example of datamoshing when the d-frames of a video are duplicated. There are two primary methods you can use to create datamosh effects on your video footage. The first, and the method I personally recommend, is using the appropriately named After Effects plugin Datamosh. I recently used this plugin for a variety of animations found in the video below from PremiumBeat’s own Lewis McGregor. The second is by manually adjusting the i-frames and d-frames of a video clip, using a free video editing program. Let’s take a look at each method below!ĭatamosh is a third-party plugin for After Effects available on. The plugin costs $39.99, but it’ll save you countless hours of frustrating trial and error and free you up for more creative experimentation.

Lightroom keyword manager mac3/10/2023 Some first-time users find some of the extra options daunting, and that partly contributes to the view, justified or otherwise, that Capture One has a steep learning curve. Because of the extra controls, and different ways of doing things, for some people they may find this additional control unnecessary. Capture One may have a smaller core feature set, but those core features are generally more powerful, and more high end. The thing is, this high level of control is probably unnecessary for a lot of users, and that's one of the things that some people can't understand when comparing the software. Update: Since I wrote this last year, Adobe has added a three way colour corrector to Lightroom too, and so this is one less advantage that Capture One has. Combined with the powerful layer system in Capture One, you can have exact control over the colours in an image. You also have a three-way colour corrector similar to what you have in cinematic and video colour grading solutions. You can create masks based on a colour key, and you have very precise controls over that key. You can create your own colour profiles and use them as the base calibration. You can create individual colour keys on single colours in an image and manipulate them. One example of Capture One's more advanced capabilities is colour correction.Ĭapture One has a compelling set of colour correction tools, that greatly exceed what is possible in Lightroom alone. (This analogy falls apart a bit because Blackmagic has been busy adding features to resolve and it's now quite a comprehensive editor too) In contrast, Premiere is a much broader application and appeals to a wider audience. Premiere Pro does most of what Resolve does, but if you're colour grading, Resolve has a much more powerful toolset. If I was to make a bad analogy (which is always dangerous) it's like comparing Premiere Pro to Davinci Resolve. Often, while Lightroom may work in a certain way to achieve a certain unction, Capture One might have several different tools for that purpose, and those tools generally have more granular control. The answer is that, while it might have a smaller overall set of features, those features that it does have are generally more focused and more powerful. But, if you're only comparing features on a spec sheet, then you're missing the things that make Capture One so good at what it does. On a purely feature for feature set, Lightroom would appear to have the upper edge. This covers things like organisation, working with online services, creating books, making panoramas and so on. Lightroom, on the other hand, has a broader set of tools across a lot of areas. While it has some photo workflow and organisational tools, its primary strength comes as a raw processor. Capture One is a more focussed tool and a more high-end tool, primarily designed around RAW processing. This may be a controversial opinion, but Capture One and Lightroom, aren't directly competing in some respects as they occupy different segments of the market. While Capture One and Lightroom share many of the same functions, they aren't the same, as in my opinion Capture One is more of a high-end tool. This may seem like an obvious or silly question, but the answer probably isn't what you think. One of the complaints about Capture One from Lightroom users is that they don't understand why it's called "pro" or why someone would consider it "high end". If you are a Lightroom user looking to make the switch, I hope this article can provide some useful information. This article is primarily written from the perspective of someone looking to switch to Capture One from Lightroom, as the chances are, if you're reading this article, that's probably why. I’m lucky to be in a position to be able to use both, and I realise that this doesn’t apply to everyone. This often depends on what I’m shooting with or the tasks I want to perform. I have been using both applications for many years now and I often switch back and forth between each as my primary editing application. With ardent fans on both sides, it can be hard for users to distinguish the facts from the fan service, and so, hopefully, this article will provide a balanced look at both. As capture One has gained more and more users, Adobe has also seemed to step up its development of Lightroom. While the bulk of this will still be the same, there are a few things that have changed that are worth pointing out.ĭespite being around for a long time, Capture One has really become more and more popular over the past few years. However, since last year, both applications have continued to develop, and both have had several new features added and both have changed the way they perform, so I felt that it was important to update this article. I first wrote this article last year, and since then it has become my most popular post on this blog. Texturepacker grid3/10/2023 You only need to give this program the image file name, the desired tile size, and the output file name. Load the image file, get the width and height.Generate a set of tiled rectangles, starting with (0, 0, tileWidth, tileHeight), by dividing the width and height accordingly.Generate a placeholder name for each tile, such as tile00 through tile24 or whatever.Write all that information to the output JSON file. You can then open the file up and alter the placeholder names to match what you actually see on the sprite sheet for that section. No matter you're going to be naming the tiles yourself. You could aid yourself in this process by adding the following features to your program: Perform a simple check on the contents of the sprite sheet in every rectangle to see if the rectangle is empty. If so, that space can be considered empty and you can avoid generating the name or bounds information in the output. Write out a separate copy of the image where you've rendered a grid (in some easily visible color, like hot pink) over each tile and annotated each tile with the number used in the placeholder name. This will help you more easily match up the placeholder name with the image and help you produce better names quicker. In the case where you want to consider some sprites to be larger than the otherwise-mostly-regular ones (for example, the two larger trees in your example), you can manually adjust the output file to combine the bounds of the individual tiles into a larger tile, deleting the extra entries. You can write this tool in any language, although one with built-in support for all the appropriate operations (opening PNGs, annotating them, simple math primitives like rectangles) would be ideal. C#, for example, would make a good choice and you could probably write such a thing very easily if you didn't want to just use an existing tool, if you needed to build thing into a customized asset pipeline, or if you wanted to provide extra options or UI for interaction (for example, your tool could present the sheet with the grid overlayed and allow you to drag-select rectangular regions of the base tile size that constitute "larger" sprites, like the aforementioned trees, saving you the manual fix-up step). It's impossible to get away from having to do at least some manual work on the data (in the most general case), but simple tools like the above can help you alleviate the majority of the repetitive grunt work inherent to the process. Rimworld prepare carefully ideology3/10/2023 More Trait Slots might fix that, I think. I'd bet you're ending up with more because of the way Psychology handles sexuality of the pawns. Unless maybe I can find the preset character files. Only thing that comes to mind is that Prepare Carefully doesn't like it when you have more than three traits. It may be fairly annoying, but so long as Character Editor can save presets, I can probably write down the details to recreate them worst case scenario. Honestly I only use Prepare Carefully (but I'm new), so having to download two mods to make a third work is a little off putting when I have not gotten deep into it naturally. Originally posted by Siamese55:I am assuming you use it, right? I don’t think you can save presets, and since it doesn’t work in world gen (you modify characters that are already in the game), you can’t save them for different runs. It doesn’t require any additional mods that I know of, but I suppose if you have race mods or something you might need additional ones. I ask you if it does not do presets, do you have to redesign colonists from scratch every time? And there would be no way to salvage my log of saved presets and characters with this mod, would there?Īs I wrote I only use it for changing how the pawns look, so I don’t know all of its capabilities, but it has stats, backstories, traits, and I think health conditions. It makes their struggles more impactful to me and stokes my creativity and inspiration that get me hooked into a game. I am assuming you use it, right? I have seen some stuff, but not like a real list of major differences other than Character Editor needs more mods to work but does more stuff to compensate. Since that’s what I used character editor for I’m happy to see that included in the base game -assuming you can change clothing color with it. It seems like the styling bench might (hopefully) allow for more surface customization at least. Not sure if it is or will be updated to 1.3. If you’re just interested in character editing Character Editor probably has the functionality you need (although I don’t think you can save presets). Now I kind of feel like I have to choose between 1.3/Ideology and the character creation component which has helped me have so much fun. I know character creator does more, but it needs more mods to work and this one is just so simple (and the one I am already using). I'll be kind of devastated to lose all my presets. I am a newer player, but this is one of the few games I have never really played unmodded. Originally posted by Siamese55:I just assumed this mod was so popular that of course it would be updated.
